Land Wars

Land Wars is a simple gameplay demo I made for class that tests out a unique form of battle involving terrain. The game consists of two main teams that take turns moving their units, the goal being to defeat the opposing team. The main catch of this system being that attacking and moving terrain is one in the same, with each unit being able to raise or lower an adjacent tile at the end of their turn.

With this project I was tasked with making a strategy game and I loved the idea of moving the battlefield. Working with unique terrain types to enrich spaces is something I love to do but with limited time I needed to do something that was simple while still being intriguing.
In Land Wars each unit can move and then choose to make an adjacent tile go up or down on their turn. With limited movement and attack range this turns tiles into both a simple attack but also a way to create a barrier from an attacking opponent. Combine this with three movable units and different simple strategies emerge.

Land Wars was just a simple demo but something I was very happy with. If given more time I would have loved to add unique tiles, other terrain obstacles, or units that interact with tiles in more ways.
